The entire process — registration and fee payment — runs in a single three-week window, so mark these dates now:

  • Registration opens: 11 August 2026

  • Last date to register and pay fees: 31 August 2026

  • Preliminary Exam: September 2026 (tentative)

  • Main Exam: November 2026 (tentative)

Exact exam and admit card dates will be announced separately, so keep checking the official careers page rather than relying on a fixed calendar.

How Many Vacancies, and Where

The 9,124 openings are spread across 24 states and union territories, with candidates only allowed to apply for one state and required to be proficient in that state's local language. The heaviest hiring is concentrated in a handful of large states:

  • Maharashtra leads with over 1,700 regular vacancies plus a sizeable backlog

  • Tamil Nadu follows with around 1,400 regular vacancies

  • Odisha has roughly 1,100 regular vacancies

  • West Bengal and Karnataka each have several hundred openings

Smaller northeastern states and union territories have far fewer seats — some in single digits — so competition dynamics vary sharply by region. Before applying, check which circle covers your preferred posting location using SBI's branch locator, especially if you're near a state border (Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh both have multiple operating circles).

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification: You need a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university, completed on or before 31 December 2026. Final-year students can apply provisionally, but must be ready to show proof of passing by that date. Ex-servicemen with an Indian Army Special Certificate of Education (or the Navy/Air Force equivalent) after at least 15 years of service also qualify.

Age limit: You must be between 20 and 28 years old as of 1 April 2026 — meaning your date of birth should fall between 2 April 1998 and 1 April 2006.

Salary and Perks

The starting basic pay works out to ₹26,730 (including two advance increments given to graduate recruits), on a pay scale that progresses up to ₹64,480. Once you add dearness allowance and other city-linked allowances, total starting monthly take-home in a metro posting like Mumbai comes to roughly ₹46,000.

Beyond salary, selected candidates get provident fund, New Pension Scheme coverage, medical benefits, leave-fare concession, and other standard banking-sector perks.

Same negative marking rule applies. A minimum qualifying percentage is required (relaxed by 5% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen categories), and only Mains marks — not Prelims — decide your final merit rank.

Stage 3 — Local Language Test (if applicable)

Skipped automatically if your 10th or 12th marksheet shows you studied the specified regional language. Otherwise, you'll sit a short test with verbal and non-verbal sections worth 50 marks total.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Recent passport-style colour photo (light background, 4.5cm x 3.5cm)

  • Signature scan on white paper, black ink

  • Left thumb impression scan

  • Handwritten declaration in English, per the prescribed format

  • A live photo captured through your webcam or phone during the application

  • A valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence, or voter ID) for exam day

  • Category certificate (caste/OBC non-creamy-layer/EWS) if applicable, needed at joining stage, not application stage

Step-by-Step: How to Apply Online

  1. Go to the official careers page — sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings. Avoid third-party sites claiming to offer a "shortcut" application; SBI does not endorse any external coaching platform for guaranteed selection.

  2. Download and read the full notification (Advertisement No. CRPD/CR/2026-27/17) before starting — it clears up most eligibility doubts.

  3. Register online. You can save your progress and resume up to three times before final submission, so there's no need to rush through it in one sitting.

  4. Upload your documents — photograph, signature, thumb impression, and declaration — exactly as per the size and format specs, plus the live webcam/mobile photo capture.

  5. Pay the application fee via debit card, credit card, or net banking (₹750 for General/OBC/EWS, free for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen categories).

  6. Review everything carefully. Once you hit final submit, no edits are allowed — not even category corrections.

  7. Submit before 31 August 2026 and download the system-generated printout for your own records (you don't need to post it anywhere).

If you hit a technical snag with payment or the form itself, SBI's helpdesk is available on 022-22820427 between 11 AM and 5 PM on working days, or you can raise a ticket at cgrs.ibps.in.

Mistakes That Can Cost You the Application

  • Submitting more than one application — only your last completed one counts, and fees on the others are forfeited.

  • Waiting until the last day — heavy website traffic near the deadline is common, and SBI won't accept "the site was down" as a valid excuse.

  • Applying in a state where you can't clear the local language requirement and don't have a 10th/12th certificate proving prior study of that language.

  • Assuming corrections are possible after submission — category, state, or personal detail changes are not entertained once you submit.

  • Trusting unofficial "guaranteed selection" coaching ads — SBI has explicitly stated it has no association with any such platform.

Exam Centres

SBI has listed tentative centres across every state — from Port Blair and Kavaratti to Delhi NCR and Mumbai — but centre, date, or session changes are not permitted once allotted, so factor in travel logistics before finalising your applied state.
